I was on the train when a man sat across from me.
He didn’t say anything.
He just stared.
Not casually.
Not curiously.
Intensely.
Like he already knew me.
I tried to ignore it at first.
People stare sometimes.
It happens.
But this felt different.
Every time I looked up…
His eyes were already on me.
My stomach tightened.
So I got off early.
Two stops before mine.
I didn’t even look back.
I just walked.
Fast.
Trying to shake off that feeling.
Five minutes later…
My phone rang.
It was my husband.
I answered, trying to sound normal.
“Hey—”
He cut me off.
“Were you on the train?!”
His voice wasn’t normal.
It was sharp.
Panicked.
“Yes…” I said slowly.
Then he shouted—
“Go back. NOW.”
My heart dropped.
“What? Why?!”
“Just go back to the station. RIGHT NOW!”
I hesitated.
Everything in me said not to.
But something in his voice…
Made me turn around.
I ran.
Back to the station.
By the time I got there, my chest was tight, my hands shaking.
“What’s going on?!” I yelled into the phone.
There was silence for a second.
Then he said something that made my blood run cold.
“There’s a missing person alert.”
My breath caught.
“They just released a photo…”
Silence again.
“…of a man wanted for questioning.”
My voice barely came out.
“And?”
He inhaled sharply.
“He was on your train.”
My knees felt weak.
“And… he was sitting across from a woman who looks exactly like you.”
Everything inside me froze.
“What do you mean looks like me?”
“Same coat. Same hair. Same bag.”
I slowly turned.
Back toward the tracks.
The train I had been on…
Was still there.
Doors open.
People getting off.
Normal.
Too normal.
Then I saw her.
A woman stepping out.
Wearing my coat.
Carrying the same bag.
Same height.
Same hair.
She even paused…
And looked around.
Confused.
Just like I had been.
My heart started pounding.
Then I saw him.
The man.
Still on the train.
Watching her now.
The way he had watched me.
My breath stopped.
I whispered into the phone—
“He’s still there…”
My husband didn’t respond.
Because at that exact moment…
Police rushed onto the platform.
Everything exploded into motion.
Shouts.
Running.
Chaos.
They grabbed him.
Forced him down.
The woman screamed.
People backed away.
I stood frozen.
Watching everything unfold…
Like it wasn’t real.
Later, the police told me the truth.
The man had been following a specific woman for weeks.
Studying her routine.
Waiting for the right moment.
And that day…
He got on the train.
Saw me first.
And thought…
I was her.
That’s why he stared.
That’s why something felt wrong.
But when I got off early…
He stayed.
And waited.
For the real target.
I didn’t escape danger because I was smart.
I escaped…
Because I left too soon.
Sometimes…
That strange feeling in your chest?
It’s not fear.
It’s your life…
Trying to save you.
