My neighbor laughed when I told him to leave my dog alone. He wasn’t laughing when he watched the security footage.

For months, my neighbor had been flying a drone over my backyard.

Not occasionally.

Not by accident.

He did it deliberately.

My backyard was completely fenced, and I had a 70-pound Malamute named Bear who loved spending time outside.

Bear was gentle with people.

He was playful, loyal, and probably one of the friendliest dogs I’d ever owned.

But he hated that drone.

Every time it appeared, it would hover over the fence.

Then it would buzz closer.

Sometimes it would dive toward Bear until it was only inches above his head.

Bear would bark and run away.

My neighbor thought it was hilarious.

The first time it happened, I walked over and asked him politely to stop.

“Please don’t fly that thing over my yard. You’re scaring my dog.”

He laughed.

“It’s a drone. Your dog will get over it.”

I told him Bear was terrified.

He shrugged.

“Not my problem.”

The next day, he did it again.

Then again.

And again.

Sometimes he would fly the drone over the fence and deliberately chase Bear around the yard.

I became furious.

I installed a security camera specifically because of him.

I also started keeping a record of every incident.

Dates.

Times.

Videos.

Everything.

I even called the police.

An officer came out, spoke to my neighbor, and told him to stop harassing me and my dog.

My neighbor nodded politely.

Then, after the officer left, he laughed.

“You really called the cops over a toy?”

I told him,

“I’m warning you. One day you’re going to cause a real problem.”

He smiled.

“Good luck.”

For several weeks, nothing happened.

Then, in late December, he started again.

It was a cold afternoon.

I had just let Bear into the backyard when I heard the familiar buzzing sound.

I looked up.

The drone was hovering above the fence.

Bear immediately stopped.

His ears went back.

He stared at it.

The drone moved closer.

I shouted toward my neighbor’s house.

“Bring it back!”

No response.

The drone moved lower.

Bear backed away.

I ran toward the fence.

“Stop!”

Then the drone suddenly dropped.

It wasn’t drifting.

It wasn’t losing control.

It dove straight toward Bear.

Bear reacted instantly.

He jumped.

His jaws snapped shut around the drone.

CRACK.

The drone hit the ground.

Bear released it and stepped backward.

He wasn’t hurt.

The drone, however, was destroyed.

A few seconds later, my neighbor came running across his yard.

“What the hell did you do?”

I stared at him.

“Your drone attacked my dog.”

“You need to pay for that!”

He pointed at the broken drone.

“This cost me over a thousand dollars!”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

“You flew it into my fenced yard again.”

“It was nowhere near your dog!”

“It was inches from him.”

“You’re responsible for your animal!”

I almost laughed.

“Your drone was the one that flew into my yard.”

He started shouting.

Then I remembered something.

I walked inside and pulled up the security footage.

“Before you demand anything from me, you should watch this.”

I turned the monitor toward him.

The video showed everything.

The drone entering my yard.

Bear moving away.

The drone following him.

Me yelling at my neighbor.

Then the final dive.

And Bear catching it.

My neighbor watched silently.

The color slowly disappeared from his face.

I paused the video.

Then I showed him another recording.

And another.

And another.

There were weeks of footage.

Every time he flew the drone over my property.

Every time he deliberately chased Bear.

Every time I told him to stop.

Then I showed him the police visit.

The officer was clearly visible on the recording.

My neighbor stared at the screen.

“You’ve been recording all of this?”

“Yes.”

He suddenly became much quieter.

I said,

“You wanted to know who was responsible for the damage?”

He didn’t answer.

I pointed at the screen.

“Your drone was on my property.”

He looked at the broken drone.

Then at me.

Then at Bear.

For the first time in months, he didn’t laugh.

Instead, he picked up the drone.

“I’ll handle it.”

He turned around and walked away.

I thought that was the end.

It wasn’t.

The next morning, someone knocked on my door.

It was my neighbor.

But this time, he wasn’t angry.

He looked nervous.

He handed me a piece of paper.

“What is this?”

“It’s a letter from my insurance company.”

I looked at it.

He explained that his insurer had asked for the footage after he reported the drone as damaged.

They had reviewed everything.

According to the footage, he had repeatedly operated the drone over my property despite being told to stop.

They wouldn’t cover the damage.

My neighbor looked embarrassed.

“I made a mistake.”

I nodded.

“You did.”

He took a breath.

“I shouldn’t have been flying it over your yard.”

“No.”

“I shouldn’t have kept doing it after you asked me to stop.”

“No.”

He looked at Bear.

“And I definitely shouldn’t have been diving it at your dog.”

Bear stared back at him.

My neighbor sighed.

“I owe you an apology.”

I accepted it.

But I wasn’t ready to forget what had happened.

I told him that if he wanted to fly his drone, he was free to do so—just not over my property or toward my dog.

He agreed.

Then he left.

A few days later, I noticed something strange.

My neighbor was standing in his backyard with the drone.

He looked toward my fence.

Then he moved several feet away before launching it.

He kept it on his side.

For the first time, Bear didn’t bark.

He simply lay in the grass and watched.

And honestly, that was enough.

The drone had cost my neighbor more than a thousand dollars.

But the real lesson cost him nothing.

He had spent months thinking that because something was funny to him, it couldn’t possibly be a problem for anyone else.

He learned otherwise.

And Bear?

Bear got a new nickname.

My neighbor started calling him “The Drone Catcher.”

I didn’t mind.

Because every time I watched that security footage, I couldn’t help laughing.

Bear never planned revenge.

He never understood the argument.

He simply saw something flying toward him…

and did what came naturally.

He caught it.

And the security camera did the rest.
