A teacher stood in front of her class one morning, trying to make vocabulary a little more interesting.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlright, class,\u201d she said with a smile, writing on the board. \u201cCan anyone give me a word that ends in \u2018-tor\u2019\u2026 and eats things?\u201d<\/p>\n
The students looked at each other, thinking.<\/p>\n
A small hand went up immediately.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes?\u201d the teacher said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlligator,\u201d the first boy answered proudly.<\/p>\n
\u201cVery good!\u201d the teacher said. \u201cThat\u2019s a great example.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another boy raised his hand. \u201cPredator.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cExcellent,\u201d she replied. \u201cAnother strong answer.\u201d<\/p>\n
The class started getting more confident now. A few students whispered ideas to each other, trying to come up with something better.<\/p>\n
Then, slowly, a familiar hand went up in the back.<\/p>\n
Little Johnny.<\/p>\n
The teacher paused for a moment. She knew Johnny\u2019s track record. Every time he spoke, things went\u2026 sideways.<\/p>\n
But she couldn\u2019t ignore him.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, Johnny?\u201d she said cautiously.<\/p>\n
Johnny stood up, thinking hard, like he was about to say something very important.<\/p>\n
\u201cRefrigerator,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The teacher blinked.<\/p>\n
\u201cRefrigerator?\u201d she repeated.<\/p>\n
Johnny nodded seriously. \u201cYeah. It eats everything in our house.\u201d<\/p>\n
A few kids giggled.<\/p>\n
The teacher crossed her arms slightly. \u201cJohnny, a refrigerator doesn\u2019t eat things. People put food into it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Johnny shook his head. \u201cNot at my house.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now the whole class was paying attention.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d the teacher asked.<\/p>\n
Johnny shrugged. \u201cEvery time my mom buys snacks, she says, \u2018Don\u2019t touch anything, it\u2019s for later.\u2019 Then the next day, everything\u2019s gone.\u201d<\/p>\n
The class burst into laughter.<\/p>\n
Johnny kept going, completely serious.<\/p>\n
\u201cI checked once. Nobody ate it. My dad said he didn\u2019t touch it. My mom said the same. So I figured\u2026 the refrigerator must be eating it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The teacher tried not to smile, but it was getting harder.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd that\u2019s not all,\u201d Johnny added. \u201cIt even eats leftovers. We put them in at night, and somehow\u2026 they disappear by morning.\u201d<\/p>\n
The room was now full of laughter.<\/p>\n
The teacher shook her head, trying to regain control. \u201cJohnny, that\u2019s not how it works.\u201d<\/p>\n
Johnny sat back down, completely unfazed. \u201cMaybe not in your house.\u201d<\/p>\n
The teacher sighed, half amused, half defeated. \u201cAlright, class\u2026 let\u2019s move on.\u201d<\/p>\n
But as she turned back to the board, the students were still laughing.<\/p>\n
